The redeeming qualities in imperfect people are the things that make me want to write and re-write the story. So often the extraneous details get in the way of the character development and I don’t want to waste a second. Whether in dialogue, lyrics or music I want to drive to the heart of the situations, reasons and relationships. In a medium in which people are basically coming to us to feel something- to help them experience emotions and get lost in a story that means something to them- why not strive to tell the most human and honest stories we can? Whether a comedy, tragedy or something hovering in between, the human element is my home base as a writer.
